Dieu Cay was awarded the Freedom of the Press

Blogger Dieu Cay is known for many articles touching on sensitive issues such as corruption , island sovereign

Blogger Nguyen Van Hai , that Dieu Cay , was awarded the International Press Freedom in a ceremony in 2013 the Committee to Protect Journalists ( CPJ ) in New York , at U.S. 26/11 , local time .

This pen is still serving a sentence of 12 years in prison after a court in the city . HCM sentenced on charges of "propaganda against the state " last year .

BBC Replies day 27/11 , Duong Thi Tan , his wife Customs , said some family friends informed of the award and later also received an invitation to the awards ceremony from CPJ .

Commenting on the award of her husband , Ms. Tan said , " family is very happy because this is a good sign , showing that the international community is increasing attention to Vietnam ."

" I think the loss of his sacrifice also be repay deservedly, in time , " she said .

Son of Mr. Hai , Nguyen Tri Dung , appeared on a video shown at the awards ceremony and said the award has helped him and his family feel " safer " .

Along be awarded with Mr. Hai is three other foreign journalists , including :

Ms. Janet Hinostroza , radio reporter Teleamazonas , Ecuador , who was forced to quit after being threatened by an investigation .
Mr. Bassem Youssef , the host of Capital Radio Broadcast Center , Egypt , accused of insulting Islam and the president in 2012, then arrested and administrative penalties in 2013 .
Mr. Nedim Sener , Posta newspaper investigative reporter , Turkey , blamed for the terrorist activities all are investigating alleged anti-government content . He is currently on bail , but could be sentenced to 15 years in prison if convicted .

Press Freedom Awards annually to honor the founder of the " courageous article , help shape the freedom of the press ," CPJ said in a statement .

Campaign CPJ 's petition has attracted more than 6,500 signatures in less than a week

Before that , CPJ has also launched a petition campaign calling for Vietnam's leaders to free blogger Nguyen Van Hai and respect for freedom of information .

Petition sent to Vietnam President Truong Tan Sang and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung was posted on www.causes.com from 21/ 11, far attracted 6588 signatures .

The contents of the letter calling for the government of Vietnam " immediate release " Mr. Nguyen Van Hai , also expressed " deep concern oppression press and Internet freedom in Vietnam " .

CPJ also posted an article on the Huffington Post blog entries and asked readers of this newspaper to name the signatories desire to help family of Mr. Hai " reunion early " .

Mr. Hai is currently served 12 years in detention center 6 , Thanh Chuong district , Nghe An province by spreading propaganda against the state under Article 88 of the Penal Code .

HANOI - Vietnam will sanction up to 100 million VND ( 5,000 dollars ) for those who criticize the government on social media , according to a new decree issued this week.

Decree that the acts are not serious enough for criminal prosecution, but the content of "propaganda against the state " or disseminate " reactionary ideology , distorting historical facts , deny the achievements of way network , etc. " will be punished administratively from 70 million to 100 million VND.

The new decree is expressed vague and did not specify how comments are to be regarded as a criminal offense punishable by imprisonment , or just " administrative violations " to pay fines .

Social activist Nguyen Lan Thang , who regularly use social networking to news updates and advocacy , said that this regulation will cause users to outraged .

The human rights organizations and foreign governments have strongly criticized Vietnam for draconian regulations on Internet users , including the U.S. . Reporters Without Borders called Vietnam 's " enemies of the Internet " .

Many dissident bloggers using the Internet to voice their views are often harassed by the authorities or be subject to harsh prison terms . The number of arrests and convictions has increased dramatically in the past 4 years .

The soaring Internet penetration in Vietnam . One third of the 90 million people in Vietnam are connected to the Internet and about 20 million people have Facebook accounts .
