Freedom of the press in Vietnam has been the attention and concern from human rights organizations and international community. The annual report of Freedom House organization in the United States on the Worldwide Press Freedom 2012 has been published recently shows that deplorable situation of press freedom in Vietnam today. The report shows that Vietnam was ranked at 182 ranking of 197 countries and territories surveyed in 2011 and were listed as Class 3 under absolutely no national Freedom of the Press along with the such as China, Burma, North Korea, Laos and Cambodia ...... A report truly objective and a high degree of accuracy when dealing with Vietnam as a country with absolutely no press freedom though still has more than 600 large and small newspapers active and service in the country.

World today, Freedom of the Press is the goal pursued by the national Democrats because they say, Freedom of the Press is the foundation to help develop the country in all aspects including the areas of Economic, Social and Political Affairs. In addition, Freedom of the Press also help effectively prevent corruption and promote democracy. But in Vietnam, by the party political system and way of totalitarian, authoritarian, under the leadership of the sole and only the Communist Party of Vietnam, so the Freedom of the Press is completely blocked because much time itself becomes the obstacle and can interfere with the power and influence private interests of some individuals or group of party leaders and governments. So many events related to social security, national security and territorial disputes as well as many other important events related to corruption, claims and land disputes between authorities with religion, between the government and the people were not allowed to give information or mention.

We sure can not forget the hot events of corruption in 2011 by Le Duc Thuy, former Governor of State Bank of Vietnam had arranged to buy the cheapest the public house and bribery more than 10 million Australian dollars from Securency companies related to both a military officer, Colonel Luong Ngoc Anh. In this case, the anti-corruption spirit so high indicates a willingness to put together the information and consequently the two Vietnamese journalists Nguyen Viet Chien (Thanh Nien Newspaper) and Nguyen Van Hai (Youth Newspaper) was arrested charged with "Disclosure of National confidential information ." Eight Newspapers were later subject to administrative sanctions, including the Newspapers such as: Youth, Youth, Workers, Economic Times, Saigon marketing .... some newspapers have stopped publishing and transferred position to the editor. Standards and the question is what we aim to find out about the free press in a country. Vietnam is not outside the practice. Based on data collected, we found that Vietnam is on the list of countries that do not have an open and press freedom as of now. In Vietnam, people do notice is a lot of pressure, there were reporters journalists were arrested for daring to speak frankly. These are the things that we care and are forced to put Vietnam into the group of countries without press freedom.

Just look how the media situation, people will see Vietnam and the communist government has been constantly trying to put the media and journalism in tightly controlled. It is called diversity or abundance of information no matter what the press has been a grip, homework censored. Censorship in Vietnam to clear the lot when working journalists did not dare to publish the truth for fear to turn harassed, persecuted and even banned from practicing as a colleague Their earlier.

To the question if compared with the two neighboring countries of Laos and Cambodia, also on the list of countries in Southeast Asia lack of press freedom, Freedom House's Dr. Karlegar identified just over press journalism Vietnam Laos a number of more abundant and more homework, but lost in the Phnom Penh Cambodia relatively light hand with the media than Hanoi.
