International condemned Vietnam on the sentence for Dinh Nhat Uy

Tòa án tỉnh Long An hôm 29/10 tuyên phạt 15 tháng tù treo đối với Facebooker Đinh Nhật Uy vì tội "Lợi dụng các quyền tự do dân chủ xâm phạm lợi ích của Nhà nước, quyền, lợi ích hợp pháp của tổ chức, công dân" theo Điều 258 Bộ luật Hình sự.
Long An Provincial Court on 29/10 sentenced to 15 months probation for Facebooker Dinh Nhat Uy on " abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State and the rights and legitimate interests of organizations , citizen " under Article 258 of the Criminal Code .

The protection of human rights organizations around the world protested en masse 15 months suspended prison sentence that Vietnam has said for a young Facebook users call for justice for his brother and against aggression East Sea from China .

Dinh Nhat Uy was accused of ' abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon interests of the state ' under Article 258 of the Criminal Code . Judgment of the Court of Long An Province People on 29/10 and fine Uy 1 year chronic challenge after sentence .

Human Rights Watch Organization said the verdict of Uy was a clear harsh blow for freedom of speech of the people in Vietnam .

Phil Robertson , deputy director of the Asia Human Rights Watch told VOA Vietnamese language :

" This is a step back further on freedom of expression in Vietnam . All the others who were Vietnam government can jail only because the individual thoughts or criticisms peaceful to state crackdown demonstrates the power of Hanoi 's continued and increased . The sentence of Uy is a sign of more to see Hanoi totally not tolerate any opinion that disagrees with the state . The activities of Uy is perfectly normal , anyone also to do so , to speak out for justice before the social injustice ,before the injustice of the relatives . Uy did not do anything to be considered a criminal offense at all. "

This is a step back further on freedom of expression in Vietnam . From this person to another person to be imprisoned only because the individual thoughts or criticisms  state peacefully, suggesting that the crackdown on human rights and Hanoi continues to increase.

15 months of probation for Dinh Nhat Uy is a relatively light sentence compared to other cases which had been prosecuted in Vietnam for the previous also follow Article 258 . However , Mr Robertson said that despite the verdict ' mild ' compared to the judgments involved in politics in Vietnam , but it is not light to moderate activity execute basic human rights . Representatives of Human Rights Watch emphasized Dinh Nhat Uy should not be arrested or prosecuted for these activities , let alone be convicted .  

This is the first case in Vietnam netizens was accused criminal under Article 258 because of comments posted on Facebook .

Mr. Phil Robertson said the verdict proved that more than ever , Vietnam does not deserve a seat at the UN Human Rights Council :

" The Hanoi sentenced a man who used Facebook asking for justice on charges of " abusing democratic rights violated state interests ' expose to the world the human rights policies of Vietnam went bankrupt . I call on the Vietnam government to withdraw the intention election in the UN Human Rights Council because they are not appropriate and do not deserve . "

The sentence is the message indicates the communist Vietnam never protect and respect freedom of expression and freedom of information people.

Organization Reporters Without Borders RSF in France also condemned the judgment of Dinh Nhat Uy and that this is further evidence that not only the dissidents or activists on the Internet in Vietnam , but also their relatives also in harassment by the authorities , to the extent suppressed .

Mr. Benjamin Ismail , head of Asia -Pacific in Vietnam RSF told VOA English language :

" The sentence is the message indicates the Communist Party of Vietnam and never protect and respect freedom of expression and freedom of information of the people . "

However, according to him , the 15-month suspended prison sentence of Dinh Nhat Uy may indicate that the extent of the pressure of public opinion and international condemnation often worse human rights record during the Vietnam recently been somewhat effective .

Mr. Benjamin Ismail :

" We hope that with increasing pressure , the repressive policy of the government of Vietnam to the bloggers will be eased somewhat . "
 International condemned Vietnam for the sentence of Dinh Nhat Uy
Along strongly criticized the sentence of Dinh Nhat Uy , the Committee to Protect Journalists CPJ based in the United States to criticize the 258 accused Uy  content ambiguity , cover .

CPJ Commission called on Hanoi to terminate escalating campaign of harassment to independent bloggers - people who have opposite views with state laws and eliminating restrictions on the right to information and opinion commentary on the website society .

Task coordinator of CPJ's Asia , said Bob Dietz , told VOA Vietnamese language :

" The case of Uy is part of the much larger plan of Vietnam government to stifle speech critical of the government. The judgment was a warning that anyone criticizing the government in any form though and what means the state will also be treated like this . "

Vietnam State media say Uy used Facebook " to post articles , photos and information exchange with bad content , distort , thus affecting the state's reputation . "

Reply to VOA after leaving prison pm on 29/10 , Dinh Nhat Uy said since was arrested at the court , he insists his innocence and was indignant at injustice judgment .

Uy said the sentence was behalf of people's words say to International on human rights situation in Vietnam , human rights abuses in Vietnam was to what extent :

" 15 months ' probation for my Facebook I see it as the government 's warning against Facebook community in Vietnam . On Democratic freedom in Vietnam , people also want to speak to what is also in the control can not be said bluntly that end , different democratic countries overseas . Abroad, my Facebook it is not anything I want to say what it says on it . That is freedom . And in Vietnam , I found it very difficult a lot. "

Uy said he will appeal against the verdict despite the sentence risks can be more aggravating in the appellate court . This decision by the Committee to Protect Journalists CPJ supporters .

Mr. Bob Dietz :

" Bringing this case to a higher court of appeal may be dangerous though for Uy , but it can also be a wise decision to take advantage of every opportunity in the legal system that exists in Vietnam . Uy's verdict is unfair , and I think that put pressure on the government and create opportunities for people voiced support for him could be a viable strategy . "

After Dinh Nhat Uy, expected trial took place to two other bloggers arrested since the 258 is Pham Viet Dao Duy Nhat and Truong .

Vietnam is ranked 172/179 countries in Table Press Freedom Index 2013 by Reporters Without Borders and the survey is still in the list of countries with RSF listed as ' Enemies of the Internet ' .
