The issue of prisoners of conscience in VN be given a hearing in the U.S. Congress

This is a project of the Tom Lantos Hunam Rights Commission is booted over 1 year ago titled ' Freedom' worldwide. One of the main objectives is demanding freedom for prisoners of conscience. Right from the early days of the project announcement, we have participated and lobbying members of Congress stand sponsor for the prisoners of conscience in Vietnam.
Hearing about prisoners of conscience in the world , including prisoners of conscience in Vietnam took place at the headquarters of the U.S. Congress today 16/1 .

The hearing was broadcast online by the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission held a presentation of witnesses from China , Russia , Bahrain , and Vietnam .

Dr. Nguyen Dinh Thang , director of Beyond the Sea Rescue Committee BPSOS campaigning for human rights in Vietnam in the U.S. , said the cause of this hearing :

Because of these activities , we have the opportunity of taking activist's mother Do Thi Minh Hanh , Tran Thi Ngoc Minh, come here today to testify before Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission . "

In opening the hearing , Committee Chairman of the U.S. International Religious Freedom USCIRF , Dr. Robert George , accuse the government of Vietnam has carried out activities violating people's human rights including strictly limit freedom of speech , freedom of the press , freedom of assembly , arbitrary detention , ill-treatment of political activists - religious , those who dissent , and not let them get the fair trial .

Dr. George urged people to use their freedoms are enjoyed in a useful way , to speak for those who are deprived of freedom in authoritarian countries , including Vietnam . He also called on the U.S. government for human rights unyielding before economic benefits .

USCIRF Chairman said :

" The hearing as Rep. Frank Wolf , Chris Smith , and James McGovern opened today will help raise awareness of the public about the status of prisoners of conscience from Vietnam to Iran , from Pakistan to Russia . We hope that our presentation today will touch people's conscience about the fate of these victims . "

Vietnam witness to testify at this is only Tran Thi Ngoc Minh, mother of union activists Do Thi Minh Hanh , who is serving a seven year prison sentence on charges of " disrupting security against government ' because of the protected activity rights for landless farmers and workers are exploited labor in Vietnam . Ms. Ngoc Minh said :

" I was very touched and honored to be present at the hearing today . I hope after hearing this , the pressure will increase almost promote Vietnam to improve human rights and release of prisoners of conscience . "

Among those who attended this hearing specifically two young blogger from Vietnam is Nguyen Anh Tuan and blogger Pham Doan Trang . Tuan and Trang are the same number of activists in domestic performed the flight to international human rights advocacy Vietnam to the U.S. and Switzerland ahead of the Review of Human Rights Universal Periodic development of Hanoi UPR in Geneva ( Switzerland ) on early next month to meet with law enforcement officials - legislators the United States, European Union , and the organization of international human rights protection , requirements promote human rights situation in Vietnam .

Blogger Doan Trang had said :

" I am thrilled to see Congress a country far from Vietnam  halfway around the world but concerned about the human rights situation of the people in countries like Vietnam . I look forward to the people of Vietnam who also get a chance to witness its operation , the operation of a democratic Congress how it is . "

After this hearing also at the headquarters of the U.S. Congress held a press conference to launch the campaign " Erase Torture In Vietnam " by Congressman Christopher Smith and Congressman Frank Wolf co-sponsors .
A 140 page report on the state of torture in Vietnam by boat people ' Rescue Committee BPSOS 2 study published last year , stating the current situation of torture in Vietnam . BPSOS Director , Dr. Thang , said this will be the basic document for the movement of Vietnam people in the United States urged combat torture in Vietnam .
